The Appointed Person role:

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and successful execution of lifting projects. From approving risk assessments to selecting the right cranes and accessories, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of lifting operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Approve risk assessments, lift categorisation, and method statements.
  • Select appropriate cranes and lifting accessories for each project.
  • Provide instruction and supervision to employees during operations.
  • Collaborate with responsible bodies to maintain a safe work environment.


About you:

  • A background in lifting operations is advantageous for this role as it involves assessing site conditions and equipment and making task-specific recommendations.
  • Formal qualifications are not necessary as legislation emphasises competency, which is the employer's responsibility to ensure.
  • While experience is a key factor in judging competency, a relevant qualification is often preferred.
  • Demonstrating competency can be achieved through various methods, with CPCS being one of the widely recognised and accepted qualifications.
  • Consider pursuing the CPCS Appointed Person Training Courses or NPORS to enhance your qualifications and showcase your competency.
