Portsmouth, PO3

  • Monday – Friday (7:30am - 4:30pm with two 30-minute breaks)
  • £20 - £21 per hour

A.Purkiss Ltd is a family-run building and decorating contractor, established in 1988 and based in Portsmouth. With over 30 years of experience, they provide high-quality, flexible building services to Local Authorities, Block Management Companies, Surveyors and homeowners. Their trusted team includes SMSTS Site Supervisors, Multi-skilled Builders, Carpenters, Fencers and Decorators, all working together to deliver reliable workmanship across the region.

The Role

You’ll be working on local council contracts, delivering high-standard painting and decorating services to public buildings such as schools. This is a hands-on, skilled role where your craftsmanship and professionalism will really matter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all internal and external painting and decorating work
  • Work on sites for Portsmouth City Council, Fareham Council, Eastleigh Council and Hampshire County Council
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety on site
  • Use your own tools and transport to travel between job sites
  • Start work promptly at 7:30am and finish at 4:30pm

The Ideal Candidate:

We’re looking for reliable, professional decorators with a strong work ethic and excellent finishing skills. About you:

  • Experience in painting and decorating
  • Enhanced CRB/DBS check (mandatory – no access to sites without it)
  • Your own transport
  • Full set of decorating tools
  • A good eye for detail and a tidy, professional approach
  • Strong timekeeping and communication skills
  • Experience working in schools or public buildings (advantageous)
