The restaurant at this Secondary School in Holywood is a vibrant and bustling restaurant serving both the secondary and preparatory departments. Catering to over 550 meals daily, they pride themselves on providing nutritious and delicious meals that satisfy both students and staff. As a key player in the school community, they are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and customer service.


The Role

As the school’s new Assistant Catering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of their catering services. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your expertise in food service management and your passion for great food to a setting where you'll make a real difference every day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct a team of up to 15 staff members
  • Oversee skilled cooking activities, including menu preparation and portion control
  • Ensure the organisation and supervision of food service across all service points
  • Actively promote the catering service to increase meal uptake
  • Maintain kitchen and dining areas to meet current food safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation
  • Secure the catering unit at the end of each day
  • Maintain effective communication with school staff and within the catering team
  • Deputise for the Catering Manager as needed

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who combines strong leadership skills with hands-on culinary expertise. You should be motivated by delivering high standards and enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

You Will Have:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a senior role within a large-scale catering establishment
  • Knowledge of hygiene, health, and safety legislation
  • Experience in managing and training staff
  • Strong organisational and budget management skills
  • The ability to create and implement healthy, balanced menus

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Catering
  • Basic Certificate in Food Hygiene
  • Experience in marketing catering services
