Mechanical Design Engineer
Horsham, West Sussex

  • Full time, permanent (39.5 hours per week)
  • £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

The Role

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our close-knit technical team. You’ll provide engineering design, detailed drawings, and technical support for our wide range of electro-mechanical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and generate connector and cable assembly drawings and parts lists to BS8888
  • Create detailed product drawings for subcontracted manufacture
  • Update and re-issue drawings as design changes occur
  • Support the Technical Manager with product concepts, custom solutions, and special projects
  • Assist with technical specifications, datasheets, and proposal drawings
  • Respond to technical queries internally and externally (post-training)
  • Provide 3D CAD models and support customer requests
  • Liaise with production to determine tooling needs and design jigs and tools as required
  • Contribute to creating work instructions and testing protocols
  • Offer engineering support across departments, including QA and the shop floor

The Ideal Candidate

You’re an experienced Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer or Draughtsperson, confident with 3D CAD and hands-on support. About you:

  • 10–15 years of electro-mechanical design experience
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD systems
  • Familiarity with BS EN ISO 9001:2015 and BS8888 standards
  • Previous experience in light electro-mechanical manufacturing
  • Understanding of core manufacturing processes and tooling
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills; ERP/MRP understanding is a bonus
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar (minimum)
  • Some practical engineering or machining experience desirable
  • Confident, self-directed, and able to manage time effectively
  • Comfortable with business presentations and internal communications
  • Full UK driving licence required
