Falkland Islands

  • Full time position
  • Fixed term contract up to 24 months
  • £35,274 - £43,564 per annum + enhancements for on call and unsocial hours

The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) is the primary healthcare facility in the Falkland Islands, offering an exceptional blend of primary and secondary care services. The Role

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in leading our nursing team, ensuring high standards of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage shift workloads, allocating staff efficiently.
  • Deliver patient care in alignment with individual care plans.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the nursing team.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of nursing practices.
  • Participate in staff appraisals and support professional growth.
  • Address changing patient needs and ensure adherence to hospital policies.
  • Undertake patient care duties and serve as a role model for best practices.


The Package:

  • Base salary of £35,274 - £43,564 plus enhancements for unsocial hours and on-call.
  • Gratuity (lump sum payment) on completion of the contract term equivalent to 25% of the total base salary value of the contract.
  • Relocation allowance to help with moving costs.
  • Free flights for the employee and dependants at the beginning and end of the contract plus additional annual return flights after the first year.
  • Paid leave of 41 days comprising 30 days of annual leave and 11 days of public/government holidays.
  • Good quality furnished accommodation at reasonable rental rates. 


The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a compassionate and highly skilled nurse who thrives in dynamic environments and values teamwork. You will have:

  • UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of post-registration experience.
  • Proven ability to lead a team effectively.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using relevant software (e.g., EMIS, Microsoft Office).
  • Enthusiastic, empathetic, and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Experience in Casualty or other specialised areas of nursing (desirable)
  • Additional qualifications or language skills (e.g., Spanish) is desirable.
