Sports development coordinator (sport and physical activity)

Birmingham (B4 7BX)

Salary: £7,484.66 - £11,226.99 (£27,319 pro rata)

Contract type: Fixed term until 31 July 2026

Hours: Part-time, 10–15 hours per week

About the organisation

This independent student-led charity exists to enhance the experience of everyone studying at Aston University. It provides services ranging from student advice and representation to sports clubs, societies, events and wellbeing initiatives. With a strong focus on community, inclusion and participation, the organisation supports over 100 student groups and activities each year.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and promote social, recreational and inclusive sports across campus.
  • Deliver regular sports nights, taster sessions and the annual Aston Olympiad tournament.
  • Support the administration of Athletic Union clubs, including BUCS fixtures, transport and facility bookings.
  • Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to increase student engagement.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of key events such as Welcome Fair, the Athletic Union Ball and awards evenings.
  • Maintain up-to-date risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Support student committees with training, governance and event planning.
  • Oversee kit and equipment processes in line with supplier agreements.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Experience coordinating sport or physical activity programmes, ideally in higher education.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students through inclusive sporting opportunities.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of equality, diversity and data protection principles.
  • Commitment to promoting wellbeing and community through sport.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of university sport structures, including BUCS and National Governing Bodies.
  • Understanding of student-led organisations and democratic processes.
  • Experience managing health and safety procedures or risk assessments.
